Japan kicks off 2023 by beating the rest of the world for the best passport for travelers. Japanese passports allow visa-free entry to 193 global destinations, as per the latest Henley Passport Index. Currently, there are 24 million valid Japanese passports in circulation – 20% of the population following the restriction of the COVID-19 pandemic.
South Korea and Singapore followed the top spot, followed by Germany and Spain, and the other European countries.
This data was released by Henley & Partners, a London-based immigration consultancy firm that uses data from the International Air Transport Association. They base the rankings on the 199 passports’ access to 227 travel destinations.
